This has nothing to do with being Jewish, but I'm putting it in here anyway. This statue was referred to in The New Yorker, so I Googled it. I had no idea it even existed, and at the Capitol, no less. I was in DC for about two hours a few years ago, but I missed it then, too. Would you like to know my opinion? (YES!! -- and the crowd goes wild, then hushes to listen.) What an inappropriate throwback! The idea of dressing George Washington as Zeus shows a wretched lack of artistic and historic verisimilitude (!) and I think it should be removed INSTANTLY. However, we have more pressing matters on our political minds besides 20 tons of ill-conceived, misbegotten schlock . . .
agreed!
ReplyDeleteI think it's appropriate and tasteful. I do stuff like that all the time.
