ALL IN FAVOR, SAY OY . . . ALL OPPOSED, SAY NU

Why do we spell yarmulke with an R when no one ever pronounces it? And, worse, now I’m told I have to call it a kipa. I don’t like change!! The songs I learned in shul growing up in St. Joseph are sung in my shul in Denver, with the same words but a different tune. Also the words have morphed to the Sephardic pronunciation, and I don’t like it when someone patchkes with MY STUFF. I grew up saying “bas mitzvah” and “good shabbos” instead of “bat mitzvah” and “shabbat shalom.” I liked the OLD foreignness but not the NEW foreignness. Go understand.
