THINKING OUTSIDE THE YARMULKE

My cousin David loves color combinations in red, black, and white. I’m meshuggeneh about that, too, and also I like him a lot, so I designed two yarmulkes (small and flat — the only kind I know how to crochet) in different patterns with red, black, and white blocks. I mailed them to him and called him the next week:

MOLLIE: Did you get the package I sent you?
DAVID: Yes, and thanks a lot. The colors are great.
MOLLIE: Did you get them in time for Rosh Hashanah?
DAVID: Rosh Hashanah? What's Rosh Hashanah got to do with it?
MOLLIE: A new year, a new yarmulke. I thought you'd like to wear one to shul.
DAVID: They’re YARMULKES? I thought they were coasters.
